VIENNA, AUSTRIA

Vienna (Wien), on the Danube River in eastern Austria (Republik Österreich), is known as being a vibrant music center, and the home of classical musicians such as Beethoven and Mozart. The city center is a UNESCO World Heritage site where you will find St. Stephen’s Cathedral (Stephanskirche), with its mosaic roof, The Hofburg imperial palace and St. Peter's Catholic Church (Peterskirche). Outside the city center, sites include the Burggarten (castle garden), with the statuesque Mozart monument; Rathaus der Stadt (city hall); the Austrian Parliament, featuring towering columns and the Pallas-athene-fountain; the largely pedestrian shopping street Mariahilferstrasse; and Karlskirche (St. Charles’ Church), with its Baroque design and frescoes.
